Also known as UbiSlate7, Aakash is an android-based (version 2.2) tablet produced by a reputed British company, DataWind, and manufactured by an India-based company, Quad. Officially, it was launched in New Delhi on October 2011. Aakash is a reasonably priced tablet computer that has HD video co-processor for quality multimedia experience, and core graphics accelerator for fast application support. It is only android tablet in the industry to provide DataWind’s UbiSurfer browser which is based on eighteen international patents. This browser speeds up the webpages by the factor of 10x to 30x, providing you the internet experience at an unrivaled speed.

Aakash tablet has the size of 190.5 x 118.5 x 15.7 mm with 180mm resistive touchscreen, weight of 350 grams. It provides access to Getjar, a proprietary marketplace developed by DataWind. Its processor runs at the speed of 366 MHz. The tablet comes with 256 MB RAM, micro SD slot with 2GB Micro SD card, a 3.5 mm audio output and input jack, 2 USB ports and a 2100 mAh battery. It has Wi-Fi capability, and an internal cellular and Subscriber Identity Module. The power consumption of the tablet is two watts and there is also solar charging option.
It can support various document formats (ODP, PDF, XLSX, PPTX, PPT, DOCX, DOC, XLS, XLSX, ODT), image formats (GIF, BMP, PNG and JPG), video formats (MPEG2, FLV, AVI and MPEG4) and audio formats (MP3, AC3, AAC, WMA and WAV). Moreover, the tablet also includes a special application that allows access to the YouTube video content. UbiSlate 7+ is the next generation of Aakash/UbiSlate 7 and comes with many upgraded features.
You can easily connect the internet using Wi-Fi with Aakash tablet. The latest version (UbiSlate 7+) gives an option to connect to the web at any place using GPRS with SIM card, along with an option to connect through Wi-Fi at any hotspot. A plan of Rs. 99 for 2GB data usage is made available to the customers. The SIM card can also be used for making phone calls; however this functionality is not supported by Ubislate 7/Aakash.
